Zeitraum April 2026 – October 2027

Auftraggeber Federal Environmental Agency

Kooperationspartner MediaCompany - Agentur für Kommunikation GmbH; Runder Tisch Reparatur e.V.

ISIconsult is working together with MediaCompany – Agentur für Kommunikation GmbH and Runder Tisch Reparatur e.V. on the ReFoPlan project “Scientific support for the introduction of the national repair platform” (FKZ: 3725 37 304 0) of the Federal Environment Agency. ISIconsult is providing scientific support for the conception, implementation and promotion of the German section of the repair platform planned by the European Union.

In the EU, the premature disposal of repairable consumer goods leads to the unnecessary consumption of valuable resources and the generation of large quantities of avoidable waste every year. Against this background, repair is considered a priority R-strategy compared to recycling, as it enables considerable environmental relief with little additional use of resources. In addition to the environmental impact, strengthening the repair sector also offers considerable economic and social potential. Repair promotes local value creation, creates skilled jobs and increases resilience to global supply chains. Furthermore, repair can contribute to more socially equitable access to durable products and reduce life cycle costs for consumers. However, empirical studies show that a large proportion of consumers replace defective products, even if they are entitled to a free repair under warranty. Repairs are perceived as complex, expensive or time-consuming.

Against this background, ISIconsult is working together with MediaCompany – Agentur für Kommunikation GmbH and Runder Tisch Reparatur e.V. on the ReFoPlan project “Scientific support for the introduction of the national repair platform” (FKZ: 3725 37 304 0) of the Federal Environment Agency. The aim is to provide scientific support for the conception, establishment and promotion of the German section of the repair platform planned by the European Union. The project aims to ensure that the national platform is implemented in the best possible way under the given framework conditions and that it is designed attractively for the intended user groups. In addition, a strategy for an information campaign and suitable communication materials are to be developed.

Civic engagement is becoming increasingly important for sustainable urban development geared towards the common good. With their interest in liveable, everyday urban spaces, active citizens are driving forward sustainable, cooperative forms of building, living, consuming and working. In doing so, they contribute (at least implicitly) to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, environmentally friendly production processes and the protection of biodiversity. Although civic engagement is recognized as having great potential, it often remains disconnected from administrative processes: Both sides do not come together sufficiently in municipal governance, which reduces the impact of engagement.
